Eco-Counters are automated bicycle and pedestrian counting devices. There are various methods to perform automated counts, including video monitoring, pneumatic tubes, and infrared sensors. CDTC elected to work with Parks & Trails New York (PTNY), a statewide parks and trails advocacy organization, because of their extensive experience performing manual trail counts and using automated counting technology. PTNY elected to use PYRO-Box Eco-Counters for this project. the PYRO-Box can count both cyclists and pedestrians in the trail environment using a passive-infrared sensor.
